New Job

This fall I will be teaching mathematics for Barnegat High School. Yes, almost a year of job searching has landed me back in the same town I grew up in. No complaining on my part. It's a great area, a growing school,....and a job.

If you had the question, our mascot in the bengal. Let's take a tour of the mascots that I've had to represent over the years. Imagine goofy montage music starting now.

In elementary school, we were the Seakhawks! Squaa!

In middle school, we were the Bulldogs! Grrr!

In high school, we were the Rams! ......Baa?

In college, we were the Seagulls! More bread!

In my first year of teaching, we were the Lions! Grrr! Again!

And now, I will be represented by the mighty Bengal. 

At least I wasn't like Christa's college mascot. They were the Professors, or the Profs. I'm not joking. Go Profs! Teach us something!!

A Bengal eats a Prof anyday. 

Update on life...

I finally got my first call back for a teaching job yesterday. I really hope the job works out. However, if it does, that means I am relocating to Virginia and it will be a life changing moment. As my mom says, I don't want to put all my chickens in one basket, so I don't want to get my hopes up. I will post here if and when I get a full time job.

In other news, in the past month, I have gone on a Rubik's cube solving rampage. I have shaved a minute off of my average solving time and brought my personal best down to 33.4 seconds. My goal is to compete in a World Cube Association sanctioned tournament. Does that make be an uber-geek? Maybe. I don't care. I need something to do when not looking for a job.

Also 4 1/2 months until the wedding!!!

Hope...

I hope. 

I hope there is enough milk for my cereal.

I hope I remember what I was supposed to do today.

I hope no one calls while I'm showering.

I hope I can get there on time.

I hope that parking spot hasn't been taken.

I hope the day goes by quickly.

I hope I'll get some good news.

I hope she'll say yes.

I hope there's enough money.

I hope I'll remember to go grocery shopping.

I hope that cop doesn't pull me over.

I hope my show isn't over yet.

I hope this tomato isn't rotten.

I hope I don't get a cavity.

I hope I can get to sleep.

The better outlook on life is not to hope, but to trust.

I trust things will always work out for the best.

Lost and Desperate...

Am I too obsessed with Lost? That's a funny question. It's like asking if I'm okay with breathing? 

I posted my Lost Thoughts on youtube on Thursday the 22nd. Since then over 800 people have decided to watch my video. In the grand scheme of things, 800 views is not that big of a deal. But when you're someone used to getting around 150 views per video, it's a big deal.

Not to mention I've gotten about 25 extra subscribers since posting the video....woot. 1000 subscribers might equal youtube partner!

In the meantime, the job effort still seems like an uphill battle. I've sent out more applications in the past few months than I have in my life. Substituting (although seemingly available) has not panned out like I hoped it would. I am currently deciding how low I want to lower my job expectations. I'm still holding out for the jobs I applied for on USAJobs.gov but who knows? 

When it comes down to it, if I don't get any of the jobs I

 applied for recently by February 1st, it's desperation time. 

I know that there is a job out there for me. I know there is a job that has been set aside specifically for me that I will flourish in. The question is when. Time before the wedding is running out and I may have to settle for now and do what I've grown accustomed to doing. Wait.

I'm applying to a job with the Census Bureau. It's for the position of Mathematical Statistician. It's a long shot, I know. I'm still applying for teaching positions, but I stumbled onto this listing, so I'm going to throw my hat in their direction.

New Year/Old Problems/Still Adorable

A new year and old problems. Still no job. Plenty of applications being sent out but we'll see what happens. In the meantime, videos will be my hobby. Regardless, here's an awesome pic of my nephew Caedon and me. Tell me that he doesn't look like me and I'll throw apples at you.
